Whitley Bay Lighthouse acrylic
St Mary's lighthouse was built in 1898 by the John Miller Company of Tynemouth, It replaced the old lighthouse in the grounds of Tynemouth Priory, which was closed and dismantled following a lighting strike. Designed by Sir Thomas Matthews the lighthouse was lit by oil and was not electrified until 1977. It was decommissioned soon after in 1984 by Trinity House
