The Gascoigne Almshouses at Aberford canvas
The small village of Aberford lies eight miles to the east of Leeds city centre. One of its most remarkable buildings is the Gascoigne almshouses, built in 1844 by the architect George Fowler Jones. These Gothic-style buildings with gables, pinnacles and a magnificent central tower were intended to house eight elderly tenants of the nearby Gascoigne estate.
