Opening Moves 73 Sqdn Hurricanes, based in France in early 1940, make a first move on a Luftwaffe section of Bf109 E. Already outnumbered the RAF found it difficult to combat the more experienced Luftwaffe formations and struggled to make an impact. During the short-lived French campaign no less than 16 73 Sqdn Hurricanes were lost. Many hard lessons were learned at this time. The Hurricane slowly proved its worth and made the major contribution in the looming Battle of Britain.
