Dambusters North Sea crossing print
The first wave of specially modified Type 464 (Provisioning) Lancaster bombers approaches the Dutch coast on 16 May 1943 in Operation Chastise - the Dambusters attack on the Ruhr dams. Flying extremely low, Wing Commander Guy Gibson leads in ED932/G AJ-G, the moon dancing in the waves like "a hypnotising crystal". On his right, John Hopgood in ED925/G AJ-M and on his left, Harold Martin in ED909/G AJ-P.
