Scarborough Lighthouse picture board
A 1914 Vickers Pattern 13 PDR Gun. Raised by Scarborough Sub Aqua Club and local fishermen October 1982. It was recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Hornsund, sunk by a German submarine on 23 September 1917, 2½ miles southeast of this location. Behind it is the lighthouse which was constructed sometime between 1801 and 1806. In 1914 the lighthouse was badly damaged during the bombardment of Scarborough by German cruisers and the tower had to be dismantled. It was rebuilt in 1931.
