Waddington Old Hall canvas
WHEN Henry VI was deposed in 1461, he sought sanctuary in the North. He found it at Waddington Old Hall as the guest of the Tempest family. Local historians say that the head of the House of Lancaster, fleeing from defeat during the Wars of the Roses, spent up to a year in the house at Waddington, near Clitheroe, which was then in Yorkshire. (It became part of Lancashire after local government was reorganised in the early 1970s.)
