Sverd i fjell (Swords in Rock) Hafrsfjord, near St picture board
Sverd i fjell (Swords in Rock) Hafrsfjord, near Stavanger Norway is a monument by sculptor Fritz Røed unveiled 1983. The three bronze swords stand 10 metres (33 ft) commemorate the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord in the year 872 when the victorious King Harald Fairhair defeated the petty kings and united Norway. The monument represents peace, since the swords are planted into solid rock, so they may never be removed.
