The Temple of Athena stands at the foot of an escarpment at Priene on the Aegean Coast of Turkey. It was built between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. It is a classic example of the Anatolian - Ionian architectural style. It was built as a gift from Alexander the Great who donated for the completion of the temple. The five columns were erected in 1965–66 from rubble and are 3m short of the calculated original column height. It once contained a cult statue of the goddess Athena 7m in height.
