The Apothecary's Tower at sunset. canvas
Originally the tower was built so that a light could be displayed from the top to indicate to ships passing up or down the Sound of Raasay that there was a doctor present in the town. It fell into ruin but was rebuilt about 35 years ago. A galvanised steel spiral staircase now leads up to a viewing platform for the benefit of visitors. There is a plaque upon the wall noting it as an historic building.
