Dune 45 stands at a height of 170 metres, so is a baby compared to some of the dunes in the area, which rise to 300 metres, making them amongst the highest in the world. It is so named as it stands at 45 kilometres along the gravel road that connect the Sesriem gate and Sossusvlei. It is probably the most photographed dune in the region. In this black and white shot you can see a number of tourists climbing up the massive mound of sand.
