Sunrise after the West Pier Fire _ Brighton print
Photographed a few days after the West Pier fire at Brighton. The West Pier at Brighton was designed by Eugenius Birch and opened in 1866. It was the first pier to be Grade 1 listed in Britain but had become increasingly derelict since its closure in 1975. The pier has a long history but on 28th March 2003 the pavilion at the pier head caught fire. Fire crews were unable to save the building from destruction.
