The Basset Monument, Carn Brae, Camborne canvas
The Basset monument stands on top of Carn Brae overlooking Camborne and Redruth towns in west Cornwall. It was erected in 1836 by the county of Cornwall to the memory of Francis Lord De Dunstanville and Basset. The Bassets family were the most important mining family in the area. Francis did a lot to improve the welfare of the miners he employed At his funeral over 20 000 people attended, the monument was paid for by public donations.
