My father was a Civil Engineer. His choice of career was steered, providentially on account of a dam. Not this one, but rather the one built in the 1950’s at Pitlochry (Scotland). As a teenager he watched it being built – and his future, as cast as the concrete from which that dam, and this, was formed. I’ve always had a soft spot therefore, for dams. This is just one of many that wholesomely pepper Scotland’s glacial landscape. ‘What did the fish say when it swam into the wall? Dam……’
