A portrait of a female Masai giraffe, (Giraffa camelopard tippelskirchi), in the Tsavo West National Park, Kenya. The giraffe is the tallest mammal in the world, dispite their size, giraffes, like humans, have only seven vertebrae. The Masai giraffe, which occurs in southern Kenya and Tanzania, has a pettern of jagged edged redish brown coat markings with spots running down the leg to below the knee. Both sexes have horns, the females are tufted and the males hairless.
