Winter's Gibbet print
High up in deep Northumberland adjacent to Harwood Forest near Elsdon at the side of the road this gibbet is rather eye catching! William Winter was hanged in Newcastle for the murder of Margaret Crozier in 1791. His body was brought here and hung up until it rotted away. Someone with a sense of macabre had until recently located a football on a chain attached the the arm, not there now, but this place is not one to visit in the dark!!
