The Avon At Tewkesbury canvas
A branch of the River Avon as it flows through the town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. The town stands at the point where the Avon meets the River Severn - a very strategic position in ancient times! It has a distincly medieval feel with many buildings dating from that time. In the background is Tewkesbury Abbey with one of the tallest Norman towers in existence. The Battle of Tewkesbury (1471) in the Wars of the Roses was decisive with the House of York triumphant under Edward IV.
