Pugin's Gem (altar) picture board
St Giles Catholic Church in Cheadle, Staffordshire is considered to be the finest of all the churches built by the celebrated nineteenth century architect and designer A W N Pugin. Financed by John Talbot, sixteenth Earl of Shrewsbury and described by the architect himself as ‘Perfect Cheadle’, St Giles was completed in 1846. St Giles church is of unique importance in the history of the Gothic and Catholic revival and is popularly known as ’Pugin’s Gem’.
