The Fallen Admiral - Saltwick Bay, Whitby picture board
The twisted shipwreck of the fishing trawler 'Admiral von Tromp' lies on the rocky shoreline of Saltwick Bay on the north Yorkshire coast. Standing proud in the distance lies Black Nab Quarry, which will also be lost to the sea in the future. Quarrying led to the discovery of fossils, and the bay is now known as being a location for fossils. and in 1824, an almost complete skeleton of the extinct teleosaurid Steneosaurus bollensis (a type of crocodile) was discovered at the bay.
