Egerton Bridge is a Bascule Bridge, which is well worth a visit, and it is located within Birkenhead dock system on the Wirral Peninsula. It is an unusual bridge over the road between Egerton Dock and Morpeth Dock. It is a working example of a ‘bascule bridge’. It was built between 1928 and 1931, and is one of four similar bascule bridges in the Merseyside docks. Hurry because a replacement scheme appears to be underway.
