Cotton Grass and Gorse canvas
Actually a Sedge, not a grass, but the name derives from the fluffy white seed-heads that resemble tufts of cotton. These were once used as a feather substitute in pillow stuffing in Suffolk and Sussex and was also used in the production of candle wicks and paper in Germany. In Scotland they were used to dress wounds during First World War. Also in this image can be seen the yellow gorse shrubs and the burnt heather areas for grouse moorland.
