Tectona was built in India in 1928 by local people and elephants who dragged huge teak trees to the beach to be chopped into planks. She was commissioned for use as a private yacht and was brought back to the UK. In 1964 she was bought by the Plymouth School of Navigation and used as their training ship for the next 16 years. In 2008 Tectona was brought back to Plymouth and since then has been taking young people from all walks of life on adventures around Britain.
