RNLI Lifeboat canvas
The new Shannon class lifeboat, named after the RAF Pilot Officer, Kenneth James Pierpoint who sadly lost his life whilst training in 1942, aged just 20. The RNLI’s benefactor, his sister Kathleen, was only 15 at the time and lived with this tragic memory for a further 70 years. The Shannon class lifeboat, costing around £2.2 million, is the first all-weather lifeboat to be propelled by water jets, making it more manoeuvrable than the Mersey and Tyne class lifeboats.
