The Cross of St.Cuthbert stands high on the sand dunes overlooking the Northumberland Coastal town of Alnmouth and the Estuary where the River Aln meets the North Sea. St.Cuthbert was chosen to be Bishop of Lindisfarne in 684. Alnmouth makes its first appearance in Saxon times previously thought to be called Twyford meaning two fords because of its location and estuary.
