Sulhamstead Weir On The Kennet and Avon canvas
The weir at Sulhamstead on the Kennet and Avon, Berkshire. Here the river flows from the canal to an un-navigable stretch of the river. A feature of the weir is a fish pass to help migratory fish travel upstream. The K&A was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to join two stretches of navigable river, parts of the Kennet and the Avon, and so provide a link between Bristol and London via Reading. Disused due to the coming of the railway it was restored and fully reopened in 1990.
