Sulhamstead Lock on the Kennet and Avon acrylic
Approaching the lower gate of Sulhamstead Lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Berkshire. The lock was constructed between 1718 and 1723 under the direction of the engineer John Hore of Newbury and was rebuilt in 1966. It has a rise and fall of 4ft 1in. The canal was built to enable waterborne trade to take place between Bristol and London via Reading.
