A Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) at Preston Docks. A first summer bird moulting into second winter plumage. This gull takes three years to reach its breeding plumage; its appearance changes with each autumn moult. Although it breeds in Canada and the northern USA, a few overwinter in the UK . This one in the summer of 2015 was either very early or very late depending on how you look at it.
