Martello Tower at Seaford East Sussex canvas
Martello towers were built along the south coast of England during the Napoleonic Wars at the start of the 19th century to defend against a possible invasion by the Emperor Napoleon and his forces. This one at Seaford, East Sussex is numbered Tower 74, was surrounded by a moat and is the most westerly of the towers; today it is a museum.
