Wirral's Greave Dunning canvas
This Wirral public house was originally a set of old farm buildings called Ashmount Farm. It was converted into a public house in 1981, which became “The Greave Dunning”. The owners carried out the conversion and gave it its name which originated from Old English. “Gerefa” which became “Reeve” in Middle English. A Reeve responsible for a whole shire had the title 'Shire Reeve' which later became 'Sheriff'. Dunning was the man in control of the village of Greasby, Hence Gerefa Dunning.
