I used to love to play golf, but sometimes when I was playing poorly (Once my back began to ruin my 7 handicap) I was tempted to simply walk the course and get some exercise. When I mentioned this to a friend he told me that Mark Twain said: “Golf is a good walk spoiled.” This sounded like Twain to me, but did he really say it? Unlikely is the quick answer. This barb was first attributed to Mark in 1948 but Twain died in 1910.
