Corfe Castle canvas
A fortification that stands above the village of Corfe on the Isle of Purbeck in the English county of Dorset. The castle was built by Wiliam The Conqueror & is of the 11th Century. It stands in a gap of the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham & Swanage. One of the earliest English castle built by stone when most were of earth & timber. By 1645 Corfe was the last remaining royalist strongholds in southern England and it fell to a siege ending in an assault.
