The Dovecote canvas
The dovecote in the grounds of the National History Museum of Wales at St Fagans near Cardiff. The earliest recorded dovecote here was in 1580. Pigeons and doves were an important source of fresh food in times past and also proved their worth as producers of fertilisers for the gardens! This dovecote is ornamental as well as practical and is still well populated by doves.
