St Martin Le Grand Church canvas
St Martin Le Grand Church, on Coney Street, York, North Yorkshire, England. Founded in the 11th century, and rebuilt in the 15th it was almost wholly destroyed in 1942, during the Baedeker Raid on York. Rebuilt between 1961-68, it was re-hallowed as a chapel-of-ease to St Helen and ‘a shrine of remembrance for all who died in the two world wars’. The church has a double sided clock with a small statue of a naval officer, ‘the Little Admiral’, dating from 1779 on top.
