1700 BC gold cast ibex in the Archaeological Museum, Fira, Santorini. The lost-wax technique was known in the Aegean during the Bronze Age, particularly in the second millennium BC. The ibex was found in an excavation of ruins caused by a volcanic eruption in the Thera Island group in 1700 BC.
