St James Church: Benwell canvas
My local church opened for business in 1832, the first burial being a child of 11 weeks old and the last being an old lady of 79. The graveyard was closed for burial in 1960 and currently being managed by a local group who are busy tidying it up. Most famous and Influential people who are buried there include: Richard Grainger, builder and developer of Newcastles City Centre in the 19th Century. His grave is just visible to the right behind a wrought iron fence.
