Dunlewey Church canvas
The old ruined Church of Ireland in Dunlewey in the Gaeltacht area. This is an area where Irish is the first language although nowadays everyone speaks English. The church was built by Jane Russell as a memorial to her husband James Russell, landlord of the Dunlewey estate who died on 2nd September 1848. He was laid to rest in a vault under the church floor. The church is built of white marble and blue quartzite which was quarried locally. Mount Errigal provides a stunning backdrop to the churc
