The subject of this image is the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram, near Chennai, India. it overlooks the shore of the Bay of Bengal and hence the name. it has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984 and is a very important monument of historical significance. It is one of the oldest structural stone temples carved out of granite during the reign of Narasimhavarman II of the Pallava dynasty in 8 century AD.
