Fyrish Monument in Sunset canvas
The Fyrish Monument was built in 1782 on the orders of Sir Hector Munro, a Scottish lord who had served in India as a General. The monument is to represent the Gate of Negapatam, a port in Madras in India which Munro took for the British in 1781. Its a steep walk uphill to get to the monument on Cnoc Fyrish (Fyrish Hill), but well worth the walk.
