The Churchyard The sundial is 17th.century but is mounted on the base of the original 7th. century village cross, which is thought to be the oldest in the country. People are also fascinated by a tomb near the gate. It bears a long inscription in verse but the interest lies in the emblems of a horse with a mortar board on the saddle, a ship and a cricket bat and it is in memory of Edward Johnson, who died in 1851, aged 15.
