The Viaduct canvas
Smardale Gill Viaduct in Cumbria,between Crosby Garrett and Ravenstonedale.It is 90 fett high with 14 stone arches. Built in 1861 as part of the South Durham and Lancashire Railway,it closed in 1962.The trackbed either side was already owned by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust when the viaduct was restored and hab=nded over to the Trust in 1992
