Abbey Refectory picture board
The Refectory and Gatehouse, the surviving ruin of Dunfermline Abbey in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. The gatehouse is built above a Pend (or Yett), one of Dunfermline’s medieval gates. David I, son of King Malcolm III, created the abbey in the years following 1128. The abbey’s domestic buildings were destroyed by the English troops of Edward I in 1303 during the Wars of Independence although they did not touch the Abbey Church.
