Old Calton Burial Ground canvas
An old cemetery on Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Scotland, opened in 1718 for the burial of tradesmen and merchants. Extended in 1767, but divided in 1818 by the building of Waterloo Place (the street at bottom right). The larger part includes a number of grand and interesting memorials. Behind, is the panorama of the magnificent Edinburgh skyline from the Crown of St. Giles Cathedral on the left, the towering Spire of the Hub in the center and Edinburgh Castle on the right.
