The Lang Stairs picture board
The Lang Stairs, a steep curved stairway leading up from the lower castle near the Portcullis Gate to the Upper Ward of Edinburgh Castle, Scotland. The stairs are named after the Lang Siege, (1571 and 1572) when Sir William Kirkcaldy of Grange, the keeper of the castle, changed sides in support of Queen Mary, rebelling against the new Regent, the Earl of Lennox (who supported the then infant King James VI).
