Though Matera has long been a visitor's hotspot among Italy aficionados, it rose to renewed prominence as a film location in James Bond's "No Time To Die" as well as being Europe's Culture Capital of 2019. The Sassi di Matera, the hills upon which the stone houses of the Old Town are built, labyrinth-like, warrant a visit if one is anywhere near the South of Italy.
