Thames Barge Hydrogen on the River Chelmer picture board
The Thames Barge Hydrogen is the largest surviving wooden barge having been built in 1906. Thames Barges were used to carry cargo around the River Thames, their solid flat-bottomed construction was ideally suited for this work. Today Hydrogen is one of a number of Thames Barges that carry passengers on cruises. Here the Hydrogen is pictured on the River Chelmer at Maldon in Essex where the barge is now based.
