Greenock Esplanade Buoy acrylic
This Buoy, which stands on Greenocks promenade, was the first Pintsch's Gas-Lit Buoy. Preserved 1880 sea mark navigation light buoy on Greenock Esplanade. The buoy, built in 1879 by Julius Pintsch to demonstrate his patented compressed oil shale gas lighting system, was moored at the Rosneath Patch in the middle of the Clyde, initially on a trial basis agreed by the Clyde Lighthouses Trust, and was successful as the first of many.
