Relic of the White Star Line print
Preserved as Hull No 50 in Harland & Wolff's shipping register, this caisson stands as the oldest vessel of its kind globally. For more than a century, it has anchored at Hamilton Dock's mouth, safeguarding the Abercorn basin from the relentless sea and sheltering ships in for repair. Even as Hamilton Dock ceased operations, this resilient caisson gate remained undeterred, a silent sentinel of the past.
