Captured in its natural habitat, the Oystercatcher - a robust wading bird - is portrayed in this photograph as it takes flight. With its striking black and white plumage, it is immediately distinguishable. The characteristic long, orange-red bill and reddish-pink legs further add to its distinctive appearance. As it takes to the sky, it exhibits a broad, white wing-stripe, a dark tail and a white rump which extends to form a V-shape between the wings. Highly dependent on cockles for sustenance.
