Fyrish Monument in Winter picture board
High on Fyrish Hill near Alness in the Scottish Highlands you will find the impressive Fyrish Monument. Constructed in 1782 the monument has a commanding view over the Cromarty Firth, the Black Isle, and the surrounding areas. Commissioned by Sir Hector Munro, who served in India, it provided employment for local people affected by the Highland Clearances. It is said to commemorate Munro’s seizure of Nagapattinam in India.
