A Ruined Lead Mine Building print
This ruined lead mine building can be found deep on Grassington moor in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This was one of several lead mining areas and the moor contains many old ruined buildings, levels and deep shafts. At it's heyday the mines employed hundreds of people and men, women and children toiled for long hours to extract and dress the ore. The last of the mines closed in the 1880s due in part to the importation of Spanish lead.
