Brownsea Castle, Poole Harbour canvas
Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour opposite the town of Poole in Dorset, England. It is the largest of eight islands in the harbour. There is a wharf and a small dock near the main castle. Brownsea Castle, also known historically as Branksea Castle, was originally a Device Fort or Henrician Castle constructed by Henry VIII between 1545 and 1547 to protect Poole Harbour. Ferries from Poole Harbour pass the island on there way to Cherbourg on the Normandy coast.
